1/24/2021 I'm currently at a crossroads. My contract with Amazon ends in March 26th, 2021 so I have about 2 months to find another contract position that will allow me to grow in the ways that I want to grow.
I have two options. 1) Apply to Product Management roles to better hone my professional skillset. 2) Obtain a part-time job, and start a small business that can become a scalable startup.
My gut has already chosen the path for me, and communicating here on my website is helping me make better sense of the decision I am making. My goal is to create a financially stable Asteroid Mining company to aid in the effort of making the space frontier more accessible to people. There are three people that are doing something similar to what I would like to do: Elon Musk (SpaceX), Jeff Bezos (Blue Origin), and Richard Branson (Virgin Galactic). What I like about these people and their companies, is that they hold more credibility, so their goals feel more realistic than other space startups that are popping up. The reason why they are more credible is because the CEOs have shown a successful track record of creating and managing profitable companies that achieve their goals.
This is the model that I'll be following for now - building multiple profitable companies that positively impact everyday people. Without profit, it seems unlikely to create sustainable impact. I do have ideas on what problems I can build companies around. Noting these down in Trello is a small hobby of mine. However, I do not have confidence in my ability to execute these ideas as fast and as successfully as I would like. For this reason, I will dedicate this year, and maybe multiple years, to develop my skillset.
And so the challenge begins - to get hired as a Product Manager within an excellent company, and to launch a highly profitable product that will make people's lives better. I will only focus on my role, and give it the time and attention it deserves, and postpone the creation of my business until I gain more confidence in my ability to succeed as an entrepreneur.
